Pacific Design & Manufacturing, North America’s largest advanced design and manufacturing event, announced two new summits, the “Smart Manufacturing Innovation Summit” and the “3D Printing Innovation Summit” as part of the 2020 conference program. Both summits will take place from February 11 to 13, 2020 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA. The summits will host a number of panel discussions and special sessions, including a panel discussion on “Factory Reboot” and sessions on smart factory and security of connected factory.

Qualcomm Ventures, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Inc., announced that it invested $8 million into Augury, a leading AI-based machine health solution provider, through its AI fund. “Augury has emerged as a leader in IIoT, leveraging AI to enable the world’s leading manufacturers to improve their operations through better machine health monitoring,” said Qualcomm vice president Carlos Kokron.

Technology, Media and Telecommunications predictions for 2020 by Deloitte predicts an increase in the adoption of private 5G by large businesses. The report says: “For many of the world’s largest businesses, private 5G will likely become the preferred choice, especially for industrial environments such as manufacturing plants, logistics centers, and ports,” and claims that over 100 global companies will be evaluating 5G, or will have already deployed 5G in industrial environments by the end of 2020.

Nokia announced that it will develop a private cellular network for Brussels airport. Working with Citymesh, a Belgian company that builds, manages and maintains large private wireless networks, Nokia will provide its Digital Automation Cloud platform and radio gear that will initially enable LTE-Advanced services (which Nokia calls ‘4.9G’), but will also support 5G in the future. Nokia has emerged as the leading player in this field, having secured more than 120 deals already as of December 2019.

Today, the market size is estimated to be around $75.6 billion, and BIS Research estimates that it grows at a CAGR of 8.67% during the projected period. Europe is expected to lead the global IIoT market, followed by Asia-Pacific.
